Reading the Civilian Casualties chapter of Weapons of Math Destruction was very interesting in the subject is discussed. Its main discussion was talking about communities that lacked funding and this meant they were lacking officers in the police department. These community that lacked the manpower still had the issues of increasing crime and so they need a solution. This solution was PredPol it was a crime prediction software that calculated where crime would mostly take part from an hour to hour bases. I found this so interesting reading the first few pages because I didn't even know it was a thing. I thought nothing of a way that could track criminal activity then have a good calculation on where the crime would be. You wouldn't think anything could guess a variable that is like that. It was said in many places crime dropped from 15-25% percent after using the software. As the reading goes on we learn a lot of the crimes shown is stage 2 which was the "nuisances crime". This was the crimes that didn't have high significance and they occurred easy. The issue was that the software would produce these crimes on their model most of the time because they happened so frequently and were easy to spot. I liked this reading because it was so interesting.
