My Internet Mea Culpa was a very interesting read for me. It pushed a different side of the internet to me that I haven't looked at. In My Internet Mea Culpa by Rick Webb, he talked about how he was promised a future where the internet and company were going to be more of a utopia. Webb thought that we would have access to a lot of information and not deal with the issue that people create with their online identities. The area that got my attention was when he was talking about the portion titled "We forgot to account for a period of adjustment". In this area, he discussed how maybe people need to have these arguments so we can get certain stances and information out there. Webb had a good quote that sums it up as he said, "Perhaps all this newfound knowledge is too much for us to absorb quickly, and before we get to our peaceful utopia a million racial, ethnic, tribal, personal, and political rivalries need to flame up before they flame out" (Webb para. 15). I think his idea about this is good and interesting but how long does the flame have to burn. I feel that all these "rivalries" will continue to happen and not slow down for a while. I feel like even if we had all the hidden information things wouldn't change I want to agree with Webb because it is an interesting side of the internet and what its future could be. My thing is I don't think we will ever burn away all the racial, personal, political, and the many other issues in our world. I feel like no matter how long the flame burns there will just be more gas thrown in the fire, the world is always changing. Each time we receive some information we just get hit with bigger flames and the rivalries continue. I think Webb has an interesting take that I tried hard to fit into but even without the power of the internet people would still have the same opinions just nowhere to share them.
