MULTIMODAL ANALYSIS PORTFOLIO
OVERVIEW
For my multimodal analysis, I wanted to focus on data and how companies/government were corrupt. My main goal was to use what I got from class readings/lectures to create an analysis of my interest in personal data issues. The digital world is so important, and it continues to grow and so does our digital footprint. Many people don’t know that their data is being used for company gains. I was very intrigued by how easily how data could be used, and we didn’t even know. The Black Box/We Are Data was so interesting because they were discussing real-life situations with our data. I think there is so much information out that more people need to be aware of. I believe that my new interest in personal data corruption is very beneficial and it’s something I would’ve never found out about without this class. The public is unaware of a lot of these issues and they just provided their data more and more. There are ways this information can be pushed to the public and it needs to happen. Nobody should be left in the dark about where and what their data is used for.
This Multimodal Analysis is talking about data and what happens with it. The goal of the analysis is to address the social and personal relationships around these technologies and information structures, the technical innovations, the development of their associated uses and practices, how they are regulated and promoted and adopted, and their social and cultural consequences. I chose to look at personal data and how our metadata is taken by companies. I provide examples from my daily life where I see it happening. This includes advertisements on social media, my data profile on google, as well as my search history. There are also examples that show how data is being used in a helpful way. I provide my idea on how our data is being used throughout the analysis and why it's important to watch what you have out there. In this new technological ran world, data will be one of the most important pieces of the puzzle. It will continue to determine a lot of things for yourself and everyone around you. Data will continue to have its good and bad moments. It has us wrapped up with no intentions to leave so take time to understand it more and see all it can do for you
This analysis is created to discuss data and their interactions with social media. We had to use some type of data gathering that involved our interest. I decided to discuss how private vs public social media accounts are created based on factors like age, gender, location, etc. My data was taken from 85 people all around the country and I used it to make correlations. I created charts to have visual representations for the data. I created this analysis to come up for an idea I thought would explain why accounts are public vs private. I think my data provided me with the conclusions I wanted, and they gave me a good idea to why social media accounts are created.
In a world that is so consumed by digital technology and data, I believe we need technology to help us out. In this analysis, we needed to provide a problem and offer what we believe was a solution to it. My analysis continued to stay connected to social media and that data. My problem was how our data is being used all the time by companies but most the time we don’t even know. I created a technological solution to solve this problem of our data being stolen without our knowledge. It would benefit anyone that has a digital footprint, so they could be more protected in the digital world.
